It just happened…

Hey Hey! This will be an ongoing series where I post letters written by my characters. I will still write regular stories and make sure all letter stories are labelled. Welcome to the first letter!

A letter to my sweet Nayvee

Hi Nayvee,

I got the money. Where do I even begin?

After I left our room yesterday, I went to the green book shop at Pine Street to ask if I could work the evening shift. I know they do not pay a lot, but I believed it would have been okay to get at least one thing. The lady looked at me and swept me out of her shop. Was it the way I dressed? Did I forget to take a shower?

These were thoughts that consumed my mind as she slammed the door in my face. I knew time was my enemy.

I sat on the cold floor and cried as I heard the loud ticks of my watch. Do you know what’s funny? That was the first time my eyes were filled with water in 3 months. I did not realise how much I had been holding it in till I found myself in the same spot two hours later. I knew then that I had to find a way.

I decided to walk down the street and ended up at Jane’s Jewellery. I wore the gloves you gave me for Christmas. Looking back now, I realised wearing gloves with holes was not the smartest choice for a mastermind lol. I waited for the ladies to leave and lock up the shop. After an hour, I picked up the brick beside the back door and broke the handle. Surprisingly no alarm went off.

The plan was simple. Get in, get the money in the tip jar, and run. I did make it. I found the jar and emptied all the cash into my bag. As I was about to leave, I saw the cash register at the front desk. It was locked, so I had to hit it several times.

If I was not only concentrating on breaking it, I would have noticed the two officers behind me. I guess my mind could only accommodate one mission. There was actually an alarm, I was just not the person who was alerted.

The silver bracelets they put on me probably cost more than what you needed. Tears stained my face as I became aware of the siren’s wail.

I am currently in a grey square with one table and no windows. The officer is watching me. I wonder what he will say when he finds out this is not a statement. I am not sure how this will turn out, but I hope I will be fine. I just wish you had this choice too.

The officers told me our neighbours had called after seeing you in front of the house. I told you to wait for me inside. You never listen to me. How am I supposed to accept you passed two hours ago? I was just about to get enough money to buy your medicine. I was very close Nayvee. You did not even let me say goodbye. Why?

We were just kids. We did not deserve this. Why did no one help us? Why were we alone?

I regret it. I wish I had stayed back if I knew you would leave me. When I get out, I will make sure I live the life we both wanted. I promise.

Love your annoying twin,

Natalie
